Hi there, I’m Ashley! My foster describes me as sweet, smart, & happiest when my day has some structure. I was adopted as a puppy, but things didn’t work out as I ended up at animal control. It was discovered that I nipped my owner while we slept (I was likely startled from sleep). Thankfully, Mostly Mutts came back for me! I spent some time in the prison/foster training program off-site & learned a lot! I was adopted for about a week, but I discovered that I don’t want to live with another dog, so I’m back and looking for a new home. For now, I’m thriving in a great foster home while I wait.
• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I’d love to be your one & only pup because sharing my person just isn’t really my style. That said, I can be polite on walks with calm, older dogs & I do get along with the sweet 13-year-old dog in my foster home. / Cats unknown. / I met a boy & girl around 10 years old at Mostly Mutts & was calm at first, but when they started running, I barked at them as if to tell them to slow down. I like my foster’s 10- & 12-year-old nieces, who let me come to them on my terms. I would do best with calm, much older kids who understand personal space. It’s not personal, it’s just one of my little quirks.
• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I can be fearful of new people, especially men & new situations, so I simply need a dog-savvy, confident leader who will follow the guidelines established by MM to be successful. In the prison/foster training program, I was comfortable with my male handler after about two days of building trust. MM will go over that with you & they are happy to help! Give me time to trust you & you’ll discover the real me. People who know me best describe me as: sweet, friendly, playful, curious, smart & a very good dog! My foster has been patient with me, starting with little things like brushing me & giving me space to feel safe. Now I trust her completely. If I feel rushed or overwhelmed, I might nip, but it’s never my intention. I give lots of signals when I need time. I may bark at new people at first (as if I’m yelling “stranger danger”), but I can make friends, it just takes patience. I may guard my favorite person, but that is trainable & Mostly Mutts will be happy to provide guidance. In fact, I am currently enrolled in their training classes working on this very thing! / Energy level: 5-7. I enjoy walks, playtime & exploring, but I also love my downtime & cuddles – after all, you can’t be this cute without some beauty rest.
• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I'm a smart girl who has mastered the ‘sit’, ‘down’, ‘stay’, ‘come’, ‘leave it’, ‘drop it’ & ‘place’ commands. I also greet friendly strangers without jumping up. When leashing me, I like people to be calm & get down on my level. / At bedtime, I go right in when my foster says “time for bed” & wait patiently for my little bedtime treat. Sometimes I even go in on my own because I enjoy a little alone time now & then. / As for potty habits, I’ve been a rock star.
• LIKES/DISLIKES: I like playing with squeaky toys & Nylabones, going for walks, sniffing around the yard, being brushed, cuddling under fluffy blankets & throw pillows (or on them), riding in the car (I’ll excitedly jump in!) & sitting in the sun. Once I’m comfortable, I’ll ask for tummy rubs & butt scratches. I can also entertain myself with a toy or bone, like I do while my foster mom is working from home. Treats are nice & I even like healthy ones like green beans, carrots & red peppers! / I don’t like it when people move too fast or don’t give me time to trust them & I haven’t been fond of some men. I also don’t like it when the doorbell rings. I’ll run to the door and let my foster know there’s a stranger by barking until she comes to check so I can make sure it’s safe. I'm also not a fan of the rain or thunderstorms — too bad they don’t make doggie umbrellas! I don’t enjoy being picked up & carried until I know I can trust you. I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise & training.
• MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped & spayed.
I’m looking for a calm, patient human who will let me be the queen of the house as the only dog & doesn’t mind a girl with a few adorable quirks. Bonus points if you understand personal space, enjoy a little training & structure & are ready for loyalty, cuddles, & endless entertainment. I promise I’m worth it! My adoption fee is $299.00, & I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.
