MEET OUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS

KAREN MITCHELL | Board President
Board Member since 2000.
Karen Mitchell started working Mostly Mutts as a volunteer in 2006 and joined the board in 2008. She became Board Vice President in 2016 and Board President in 2023. As the longest serving board member she brings an important element of continuity to the organization. Karen is the Foster Program Coordinator, which is a key function for Mostly Mutts.  Karen manages over 100 foster families at any given time, making sure the pets they care for are happy and safe, while providing the families with necessary support and assistance.  Being involved on a day-to-day basis gives Karen an in depth understanding of the operational needs of Mostly Mutts.  She is instrumental in communicating with the board on behalf of staff members and volunteers and she initiates action based on the needs of the organization.

SANDY HACKLER | Board Vice-President
Board Member since 2019.
Sandy Hackler retired as Global Procurement Director for the Coca-Cola Company in 2015, spent a year raising and training a rescue puppy, then joined Mostly Mutts as a shift volunteer in early 2016.  She is an ABC Certified Dog Trainer and has trained dogs and horses for many years.  She has taken advanced courses on Shelter Dog Training and Assessing Shelter Dogs.   At MM she volunteers her time to train both shelter and foster dogs, conducts Safe Dog Handling Classes for foster families and is an instructor for The Mostly Mutts University Extension Class.  As an adoption counselor, her passion is seeing dogs placed in homes that are a good match and providing dogs the training foundation that will keep them in their homes.  She is also a member of the Initial Assessment Team at MM that evaluates all dogs that come into the shelter for behavior and personality traits. Sandy became Board Vice-President in 2024.

THOMAS HACKER | Board Secretary
Board Member since 2013.
Thom’s business operations experience spans over 28 years and he is currently the General Manager, Contact Center Operations & Strategy for The Home Depot in Atlanta, GA. Thom brings incredibly valuable business acumen to the organization, and is instrumental in making sure that Mostly Mutts continues to grow at a sustainable pace.

KIM SAVERY | Board Treasurer
Board Member since 2017.
With over 30 year’s working in the accounting field, Kim is currently the Accounting Manager with Delta Community Credit Union.  She is both a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Internal Auditor.  She began volunteering with Mostly Mutts in 2009, and consistently helps on Saturday adoptions. Kim serves as Board Treasurer and her advice and oversight of the MM finances is vital to the health of the growing organization.

TAMMY MAASS
Board Member 2009-2014 and 2017-present.
Tammy was with a banking association for 26 years in a variety of positions ranging from administrative, training manager to vice president accounting. Tammy became involved with Mostly Mutts in 2006 as occasional transport help.  She was so impressed with the group that she quickly became more involved and worked adoptions most weekends for years as an adoption counselor.  She was also the Volunteer Coordinator for several years, and this is her second time serving on the Mostly Mutts board.  Tammy’s true passion though is fostering, with a big soft spot for small seniors and harder to adopt dogs.

MATTHEW SENDER
Board Member since 2015.
Matt Sender is the assistant director of technology for the city of Acworth.  His work with the city technology keeps him well-versed in new technology as well as security measures needed to safeguard all digital information.  Matt manages Mostly Mutts’ IT team, a time-consuming but essential job.  With a background in construction, he also brings experience that helps Mostly Mutts make the best use of its physical facility as the organization continues to grow.
