Join us on Wednesday evenings, where kids can curl up with a good book near an adoptable dog who needs a soothing voice to relieve kennel stress, shyness, or just craves love and attention.
Our Read to Dogs program gives children an opportunity to practice their reading skills with an attentive, non-judgmental canine listener, while providing invaluable socialization with the dogs. Kids sit at a safe distance while reading to their chosen dog. Even without physical contact, the dogs learn that interacting with people is good, which helps these dogs get adopted faster!
Although regular volunteers must be over 18 years old, kids who participate in this program are providing a great service to help change the lives of homeless dogs, while also developing empathy for animals through reading. It’s a win/win experience for all.
GET THE BOOKS READY. THERE'S A DOG WAITING FOR YOU.
