A FRIENDLY GUY: 5 years old / 26 lbs.

Hello! My name is Sanders! I came to Mostly Mutts from animal control – with a severe case of mange and heartworm positive, so – obviously, I had not had the best life before I was rescued. That life is behind me now, and I am looking forward to starting the good life with my new family soon!

• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I am not a fan of other dogs, so I should be your only dog. / My foster mom takes care of several feral cats and I like to watch them out the window. One day I met one that sat next to her. I just sat on the other side and looked on curiously. If you have a nice dog-tolerant cat at home, maybe we could meet and be friends. / I met a nice boy and girl around 10 years old and although I was interested and accepting of them, I was a bit stoic and froze while they were petting me. Older kids 15+ may be a better match for me. If you have older kids at home, let’s meet!

• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I am a sweet guy with a pretty calm demeanor in general. My foster mom says I’m the most chill dog she’s ever had. I’m also a fantastic work-from-home assistant. I’m really just looking for a few pets, a comfy bed and loving family. I was a bit nervous with my first bath, but I quickly realized I was in a good, safe place. After that, my baths have been a breeze and I have figured out the massage part feels so good. I am affectionate with my people and look forward to bringing lots of joy to my new family! / My energy level is 3-5. This may increase a little after I fully recover from my heartworm treatment.

• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I’ve mastered the ‘sit’ command thus far and walk well on my leash! Let’s continue my training together. / My crate manners are good at Mostly Mutts, but my foster says I don’t even need to use one in her home. / My potty habits have been good on the shelter schedule, and my foster says I give an alert when I need to go potty so yay me!

• LIKES/DISLIKES: I really like the nice volunteers and LOVE the belly rubs I get from them! I also love a comfy dog bed. I’ve not shown much interest in toys, but maybe you can show me how much fun they can be. In the meantime, I will soak up all the petting that comes my way. / As noted above, I don’t care for other dogs, and I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention and training.

• MEDICAL: I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. I have a luxating patella which is pretty common in a lot of dogs, and the supplement Cosequin helps me keep my joints feeling their best. Unfortunately, my previous owner did not keep me on a monthly heartworm preventative, so I was heartworm positive. Thankfully, I’ve been treated for it and am in my recovery period now, which will conclude mid-late July. I am still available for adoption during this time.
